Scope of the Unit

The Clinical Nutrition Department provides nutrition support to all hospital inpatients including total parenteral & enteral nutrition. In addition to that, it integrates therapeutic diets and advanced nutritional support into the care of complex clinical cases. Our scope extends from acute inpatient management (e.g., critically ill or post-surgical patients) to chronic disease support in outpatient settings. The department also provides preventive nutrition counseling to reduce disease risk and promote long-term wellness.

  • Inpatient Services: Nutritional assessment, individualized diet plans, and enteral/parenteral nutrition for hospitalized patients in addition to counseling.

  • Outpatient Nutrition Clinics: Follow up of cases on regular basis especially the critically ill cases and post operative. The follow up includes assessment of the patient’s nutrition status and nutrition plan. In addition, cases that need weight management, metabolic disorders, cardiovascular health, and digestive disorders.

  • Specialized Programs: Tailored protocols for patients in cardiology, diabetes, burns, gastrointestinal disorders, and liver transplantation.

  • Education & Research: Patient education sessions, staff training, and participation in clinical research on therapeutic nutrition.

Nutrition Support Programs

  • Nutritional screening and risk assessment for inpatients.

  • Enteral nutrition (tube feeding) and parenteral nutrition (IV feeding) for critically ill patients.

  • The clinical nutrition department covers the pediatric nutrition plans including neonates

  • Specialized diet plans tailored for different chronic diseases:

  1. Nutritional support for burn patients to help ameliorate the hypercatabolic status.

  2. Pre- and post-transplant nutrition adjustments for liver patients.

  3. Diabetic diet programs and carbohydrate counting for optimal glycemic control.

  4. Weight management and obesity treatment programs.

  5. Providing different diet protocols covering healthy individuals and patients with different illnesses through experienced dietitians and FSH services.

Outpatient Nutrition Services

Over the past 6 years, our Outpatient Nutrition Services program has supported more than 12,000 patient cases by providing tailored dietary counseling and disease-specific nutritional interventions across multiple specialties, including cardiovascular, burn, gastrointestinal, diabetes, and liver transplant care. Each patient receives an individualized nutrition plan designed around their medical condition, lifestyle, and cultural preferences. Through structured education and continuous guidance, the program empowers patients to adopt sustainable lifestyle changes, strengthen disease management, and improve long-term health outcomes.

Inpatient Nutrition Support Service

Over the past 6 years, our Inpatient Nutrition Support Service has delivered comprehensive nutritional care to more than 16,400 hospitalized patients as an integral part of their treatment plans. Working closely with physicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary specialists across cardiovascular, surgical, burn, and transplant units, our nutrition team ensures that every patient receives the most appropriate nutritional strategy. Services range from bedside nutritional counseling to advanced enteral and parenteral feeding, all aimed at accelerating recovery, supporting wound healing, and reducing complications during hospitalization.
