Tissue Expansion

Is an advanced reconstructive technique used to generate additional healthy skin from the patient's own body. A silicone tissue expander is placed beneath healthy skin and gradually filled with saline over several weeks, allowing the skin to stretch and grow. The newly expanded skin is then used to reconstruct areas affected by burns, trauma, or congenital defects, providing a better match in color, texture, and function.

The tissue expander is surgically placed beneath healthy skin.

Over the following weeks, it is gradually filled with saline solution during regular clinic visits.

As the expander slowly enlarges, the overlying skin stretches and grows, creating additional healthy tissue.

Once enough new skin has been generated, a second surgery is performed to remove the expander and use the expanded skin to reconstruct and cover the affected area.
