Scope of the Unit

The Neuro-intervention Unit manages the full range of neuro-endovascular emergencies including ischemic and hemorrhagic cerebrovascular events, with capability for mechanical thrombectomy, emergency management for aneurysmal rupture and subarachnoid hemorrhage, and acute management for head and neck vascular injuries.

The unit also supports a wide range of elective neurovascular procedures that complements a broader neurovascular program, while building toward a fully integrated neurovascular center with neurointerventional radiology, neurology, neurosurgery, and rehabilitation pathways.

Scope of the Department

  • 24/7 Acute ischemic stroke assessment and management: emergency recognition, rapid clinical and radiological assessment, candidate selection, and activation for endovascular reperfusion and mechanical thrombectomy.

  • 24/7 Acute cerebral hemorrhage assessment and management: emergency recognition for raptured cerebrovascular aneurysms, AVMs, dural AVFs and other causes, with rapid clinical and radiological assessment, candidate selection, and endovascular management.

  • Diagnostic angiography: for highest accuracy diagnosis and management planning in patients with suspected cerebrovascular diseases.

  • Elective therapeutic neurovascular procedures: multidisciplinary planning and endovascular management for a wide scope of elective neurovascular cases including: aneurysm management, cerebrovascular angioplasty and stenting, embolization of cerebral arteriovenous malformations and fistulas, embolization of vein of Galen malformations, head and neck tumoral embolization and many others.

  • Integration with various hospital departments: for consultations, referrals, co-management and multidisciplinary meetings.
