Biography

Professor Mostafa Abdo is a Professor of HPB Surgery and Liver Transplantation at Ain Shams University with over 20 years of experience in liver transplantation, complex hepatobiliary surgery, and surgical education. He is a key member of the Liver Transplant Team at AlNas Hospital and a leading contributor to the development of liver transplant programs across Egypt and the region.

He graduated with honors from the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University in 2002, earned his Master’s degree in General Surgery in 2007, and obtained his MD in General Surgery in 2010. His doctoral research focused on improving liver resection outcomes in cirrhotic patients using autologous bone marrow stem cells.

Professor Abdo is Co-founder and Treasurer of the Egyptian Liver Transplantation Society and serves as a reviewer for the Egyptian Liver Journal. He has played a central role in establishing multiple liver transplantation units, including those at Air Force Specialized Hospital, Saudi German Hospital (Cairo and Jeddah), As-Salam International Hospital, Nasser Institute, and the Ain Shams Center for Organ Transplantation (ASCOT).

Throughout his career, he has performed more than 1,250 liver transplant procedures across leading medical institutions and contributed to the establishment of the first liver transplant center in West Africa (Côte d'Ivoire). He has numerous national and international publications focusing on liver transplantation, hepatocellular carcinoma, pancreatic and biliary surgery, and surgical outcomes.
