The Adult Medical Unit provides comprehensive, non-surgical care for adults with a wide range of gastrointestinal, hepatic, and pancreatic conditions. The unit focuses on advanced diagnostics, evidence-based medical management, and long-term disease monitoring, including inflammatory bowel disease, functional disorders, and complex nutritional needs, ensuring personalized treatment plans and coordinated multidisciplinary care.


Scope of the Unit

This unit delivers in-depth assessment and non-operative management for adults with disorders of the digestive system, liver, and pancreas. Services encompass the care of chronic inflammatory and immune-related conditions, functional and motility disorders, and long-term nutritional challenges, supported by advanced testing, individualized therapy plans, and coordinated follow-up across multiple specialties.

Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD) is an advanced endoscopic procedure used to remove early tumors from the digestive system without the need for major surgery. Our program is the first in Egypt fully dedicated to ESD, and we are the most experienced team nation and international wide, with more than 200 successful procedures in the last 2 years with 95% success rate (which is comparable to the international rate). This minimally invasive technique allows doctors to remove abnormal or precancerous tissue through an endoscope, helping patients recover faster, avoid large surgical wounds, and reduce hospital stays.

Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM) is a modern, minimally invasive endoscopic procedure used to treat achalasia, a condition where the esophagus has difficulty moving food down to the stomach. Our team is proud to run the first dedicated POEM program in Egypt, with experience that ranks among the most advanced both nationally and internationally. In just the last two years, we have successfully performed over 400 POEM procedures, achieving a 99% success rate (which is comparable to the international rate), which is fully comparable to leading international centers. This technique is performed through an endoscope without external cuts, allowing patients to enjoy faster recovery, less pain, and an improved quality of life.

Instead of traditional open surgery, STER is performed through an endoscope, which means no external cuts, less pain, and a quicker recovery for patients. Our program is led by a highly skilled team with extensive experience in advanced endoscopic therapies, performing numerous successful cases with excellent outcomes. In the last two years, we have successfully performed more than 150 STER procedures, achieving an 80–95% success rate, which is comparable to international standards. The goal of the STER program is to provide safe, effective, and patient-centered care, while helping patients return to normal life faster with fewer complications.
